Nur Aneesa clinches karate gold in Jordan
National karate athlete Nur Aneesa Aira Mohamad Affendi presented Malaysia with a gold medal after emerging as champion in the women’s individual junior kata event at the 2026 Asian Cadet, Junior and Under-21 (U21) Championships in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday.
In the final held at the Prince Hamzah Hall, Nur Aneesa Aira delivered a neat and energetic performance to defeat Taiwan’s representative, Chen Po-Jen, with a score of 4-1.
The victory saw the national anthem, Negaraku, resound in recognition of the national junior athlete’s achievement.
Third place was jointly claimed by Tawfeeq Jude of Kuwait and Khalil Habiba of the United Arab Emirates, after both lost in the semi-finals.
En route to the final, Nur Aneesa Aira first defeated the host nation’s representative 4-1 in the quarter-finals.
She then continued her excellent momentum in the semi-finals, recording a stylish 5-0 victory over a participant from Kuwait.
The 2026 Asian Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships is being held in Amman until this Thursday.
