SHAH ALAM: The National Registration Department (NRD) detained 26 Indonesian nationals during a major enforcement operation at two clothing company premises in Glenmarie on Thursday over the alleged use of fake MyKads and identity cards belonging to other individuals.

The arrests were made during Ops Pandan, which targeted an office and warehouse located along Jalan U1/20.

According to Mazhad Abdul Aziz, those detained comprised 20 women and six men aged between 25 and 50 after authorities inspected 134 individuals during the operation.

“Out of those checked, 108 were Malaysian citizens, while 26 others, believed to be Indonesian nationals, were found possessing fake identity cards for employment purposes at the clothing company branches,” he told reporters after leading the raid.

All detainees were taken to NRD Putrajaya for further investigations under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both.

Initial investigations revealed that the workers were allegedly paid daily wages of around RM70 either in cash or through bank transfers.

Authorities said physical inspections using Mobile Terminal Units (MTUs) and biometric fingerprint verification found no official records matching the identity cards, despite the documents appearing authentic.

Mazhad explained that the MTU devices enabled officers to quickly detect fraudulent identity information through biometric verification technology.

“Some of them bought the illegal documents, while others borrowed them from third parties. Investigations are ongoing to identify the source supplying these documents,” he added.

The NRD said court prosecutions would be initiated against the suspects, while further action involving employers and immigration-related offences, such as expired travel documents, would be handled by the Department of Labour and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

The operation, which began at 10.30am, involved 59 enforcement officers from NRD offices in Putrajaya, Selangor, and Melaka, alongside personnel from labour and immigration authorities.
