Kuala Lumpur, 29 January: Malaysia is stepping up efforts to position itself as a leading regional hub for innovation-driven enterprises, as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and BEYOND4 convened a Strategic Engagement Session 2026 focused on strengthening the nation’s start-up ecosystem.

Held at MIDA’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, the half-day session gathered key stakeholders, start-up founders, investors, industry leaders, academia, and ecosystem partners to explore policy alignment, investment opportunities, and collaborative strategies to support high-growth start-ups and digital innovation.
The engagement aimed to accelerate the development of a world-class start-up environment by enhancing connectivity between start-ups, corporates, government agencies, research institutions, and investors, while promoting sustainable business growth and high-value job creation.
In his opening address, MIDA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim bin Sikh Abdul Majid reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting technology-driven enterprises as part of Malaysia’s broader economic transformation.
He noted that MIDA is evolving beyond its traditional investment promotion role to act as a strategic ecosystem connector, facilitating linkages that help start-ups scale and compete in both domestic and regional markets.
“Start-ups play a critical role in driving innovation, industrial advancement, and economic resilience,” he said. “Through platforms such as this Strategic Engagement Session, MIDA seeks to enhance startup visibility, strengthen industry partnerships, and provide structured support for companies with high growth potential.”
The program featured a Start-Up Sharing Session, where founders shared real-world insights into the challenges faced by early-stage ventures, including funding access, talent development, market entry, and commercialization.
A high-level panel discussion titled “Strategies to Create a World-Class Start-Up Ecosystem in Malaysia” brought together representatives from Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd., Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Qarbotech Sdn. Bhd.
Panelists highlighted the importance of nurturing investable start-ups, strengthening ecosystem coordination, improving talent pipelines, and positioning Malaysia as an attractive destination for global innovators and technology entrepreneurs.
BEYOND4 Chief Executive Officer Mr. S.T. Rubaneswaran emphasized the need for integrated talent development, innovation frameworks, and strong partnerships to catalyze startup growth across Malaysia.
He stressed that collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to ensure start-ups can move efficiently from ideation to commercialization and regional expansion.
In conjunction with the event, Yayasan Pahang officially launched the Pahang Startup Blueprint 2030, a strategic roadmap aimed at strengthening the state’s startup ecosystem. The blueprint was developed with contributions from MIDA and BEYOND4, reflecting close collaboration between federal and state stakeholders.
The initiative outlines targeted measures to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable ecosystem development at the state level.
The Strategic Engagement Session 2026 reaffirmed MIDA’s growing role as a proactive enabler of innovation and entrepreneurship, aligning start-up development with Malaysia’s broader industrial and digital economy goals.
Through continued collaboration and strategic interventions, Malaysia aims to remain a competitive and attractive destination for start-ups, investors, and industry partners in the rapidly evolving regional innovation landscape.
