MELAKA, Oct 22: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly abducting and assaulting his ex-girlfriend at the compound of a mosque in Kampung Melaka Pindah, Alor Gajah, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, the suspect was detained at 7pm the same day by officers from the Alor Gajah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at a house in Jalan Ayer Hitam Lendu, Kampung Ayer Hitam.

“The suspect, a pensioner with eight prior drug-related offences and two other criminal records, is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and Section 326 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon,” said Dzulkhairi.

At around 4:30pm on Oct 21, the 35-year-old victim was reportedly approached by her former boyfriend near the mosque. The suspect, wielding a 25 cm-long knife, allegedly forced her into his car at knifepoint.

Once inside, the man punched her in the head, beat her, and stomped on her chest for several minutes before transferring her into another vehicle. He then drove off with a sword pointed at her chest, according to police.

While stopped at a shop in Taman Sutera Indah, Kelamak, the victim managed to send her location and a WhatsApp message to her ex-husband asking for help.

Not long after, the suspect drove to a house in Alor Gajah, where two of the victim’s brothers arrived, broke the car window, and engaged in a struggle with the suspect.

“The victim took the chance to escape and struck the suspect in the face with a flower pot,” Dzulkhairi said.

Police officers and paramedics soon arrived at the scene, taking the suspect into custody and sending the victim to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment.

The victim suffered a stab wound to her right arm, requiring four stitches, but is now in stable condition.

Investigations revealed that the suspect became enraged after the victim refused to reconcile with him upon learning that he was already married with children.

Police said further investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains under remand pending charges.
