Malaysia’s cultural diversity is shown to the world via the Kaamatan Festival and Gawai Day, says King
KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, claims that the world is shown Malaysia’s cultural richness through the Thursday and Friday celebrations of Gawai Day and the Kaamatan Festival.
His Majesty added that these two festivals serve as a reminder to be thankful in a post on the Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Facebook page on Thursday, May 30.
“The King added that as a gesture of appreciation at the conclusion of the harvest season, all Malaysians, irrespective of race or religion, should remember to express gratitude for the nourishment and blessings received in accordance with their own customs.
“Sultan Ibrahim also stated that this celebration showcases to the world Malaysia’s multicultural society, each with its unique traditional heritage,” stated the post.
Those in celebration of Gawai Day and Kaamatan Festival were also wished a happy day by the King and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.
In Sabah, the Harvest Festival, or Kaamatan Festival, takes place on Thursday, while Sarawak celebrates Gawai Day on Saturday.
As the harvest season comes to a conclusion, both festivities are observed as expressions of thankfulness. – BERNAMA
