KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Transport Ministry announced that all driving license holders can now apply for a physical driving license without providing proof of upcoming overseas travel, effective Friday, January 23.
Applicants can obtain the physical license at any Road Transport Department (JPJ) or Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) counter nationwide. A printing fee of RM20 will apply for Malaysians, while non-Malaysians will be charged RM100.
The fee will be waived for individuals aged 60 and above, holders of Class A1 and A licenses, and persons with disabilities (OKU) registered with the Social Welfare Department, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday, January 22.
Those who choose to maintain a digital driving license can continue to renew it conveniently via the MyJPJ mobile application without visiting any counter.
“This change aims to reduce bureaucratic procedures. JPJ has been instructed to no longer require proof of overseas travel for the printing of physical licenses,” the ministry said.
The statement added, “The Ministry and JPJ are committed to continuously improving services for the public. We encourage the public to fully utilize the electronic license through the MyJPJ app for a faster, smoother, and more convenient experience.”
