Malaysian Teen Arrested in Hong Kong with 3kg of Cannabis Flower Believed to Be Drug Mule
KUALA LUMPUR: The 19-year-old Malaysian teenager arrested in Hong Kong last week with a seizure of three kilogrammes of cannabis flower is believed to have been recruited by a syndicate as a drug mule.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said checks revealed that the man, who is from Sarawak, has no prior criminal record in Malaysia.
According to him, the NCID has received confirmation regarding the suspect’s arrest from the Hong Kong authorities.
“Hong Kong Customs found three kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis flower in the suspect’s luggage, and he is believed to have been recruited as a drug mule by a syndicate,” he said on Thursday.
He added that the suspect arrived at Hong Kong International Airport on July 9.
Hong Kong Customs had previously stated in a statement that the suspect arrived from Kuala Lumpur via Singapore before being detained during a customs inspection.
An inspection of the man’s checked luggage uncovered approximately three kg of substances suspected to be cannabis flower, valued at HK$500,000 (approximately RM260,000).
