PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Army has taken serious note of the viral allegations and content on social media claimed to be defamatory, baseless and potentially damaging the reputation of its members, the chain of command and the organisation’s image.

According to the Malaysian Army, the issue regarding allegations of ‘Army members committing rape, molestation and sexual intercourse’ which has gone viral since 2024 until now has been given attention through internal investigations.

The investigation findings revealed that the complaints spread through social media platforms were contrary to the actual facts.

“As such, police reports have been lodged by the members involved regarding the matter. In addition, the officers and members involved have also made reports to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action,” it said in a statement today.

The Malaysian Army also stated that the complainant’s use of social media as a reporting medium was unprofessional and was seen as an attempt to tarnish the organisation’s image.

According to the Malaysian Army, to date, no police report has been lodged by the complainant regarding the criminal allegations as claimed in the viral posts.

In a related development, the Malaysian Army informed that the account which uploaded the allegations had disappeared and been deleted from social media.

The Malaysian Army stressed that the culture of ‘trial by viral’ cannot be normalised, as every allegation must be submitted through proper channels.

“The Malaysian Army will use all civil and criminal legal instruments to curb this phenomenon.

“Every allegation must be submitted through proper channels so that it can be investigated fairly, transparently and according to the rule of law,” it said.
