Allegations Of Rohingya Marriage Certificate Bearing JAKIM Code To Be Investigated

PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, will investigate the allegations regarding a Rohingya marriage certificate that displayed a code believed to refer to the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

However, he said, for now, his office has not yet obtained information regarding the matter and would seek clarification first before commenting further.

“We will investigate it later, I have not received any information regarding the matter yet,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the 2nd Malaysian Syarie Prosecutors Conference 2026 here today.

He said this when asked to comment on the Perak Islamic Religious Department’s (JAIPk) reported refusal to recognise Rohingya marriage certificates, in addition to allegations that the document displayed a code believed to refer to JAKIM.

Previously, a marriage certificate allegedly issued by the Rohingya Ulama Council of Malaysia went viral on social media, displaying the code “JAKIM.PERH/LN.800-7(5)”, thus raising questions about the code’s connection to JAKIM .

Kosmo! previously reported that JAIPk had stressed that the ‘Marriage Certificate Card’ issued in the name of the Malaysian Rohingya Community Ulama Association was not a document recognised by the department .

JAIPk clarified that marriages within the Rohingya ethnic community cannot be registered as it involves policy issues currently being refined by the state religious authorities .
