Malaysian Activists Aboard ‘Conscience’ Ship Arrive at Ashdod Port After Israeli Interception

9KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 :The Conscience vessel, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s “Thousand Madleens to Gaza” (FFC–TMTG) humanitarian mission, has reportedly arrived at Ashdod Port after being intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters.

According to AFP, the ship  carrying eight Malaysian activists  reached the port yesterday following an 11-hour journey under Israeli escort.

Earlier, Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) Chief Executive Officer Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anwar said the vessel was intercepted approximately 120 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza at around 10.50 a.m. Malaysian time. He noted that the journey to Ashdod Port was expected to take between 10 and 11 hours after the interception.

Kamarul Zaman added that the Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel will begin legal consultations and representation today for all nine Malaysian activists detained by Israeli authorities.

The eight Malaysians aboard Conscience include: Prof. Emeritus Dr Mohd Alauddin Mohd Ali, Mission Leader,Dr Fauziah Hassan,Dr Hafiz Sulaiman,Dr Ili Syakira Mohd Suhaimi,Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil, journalist,Prof. Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh,Dr Noorhasyimah Ismail,Norsham Abu Bakar, MyCARE Board of Trustees member

Meanwhile, Dr Maziah Mohammad, another Malaysian medical expert, was aboard the Umm Saad, a separate vessel belonging to the TMTG group.

The Conscience is among several ships participating in the flotilla aimed at delivering humanitarian aid and raising awareness about the ongoing blockade in Gaza.
