SEPANG, Sept 30 (VoM):Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned that Malaysia will issue a strong and comprehensive protest should Israel intercept or seize the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which is currently en route to Gaza with humanitarian aid.
Speaking after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) on Tuesday, Anwar stressed that Malaysia would not remain silent if the mission faced obstruction.
“We will initiate a strong protest, and I will reach out to all relevant parties, including nations that had earlier put forward peace proposals, particularly Italy, Spain, and Turkiye, with support from China. We are also in contact with France and Saudi Arabia, who are exploring peace initiatives,” he said.
The prime minister underlined the importance of forging closer ties with both Western and Arab nations, as well as global powers, including the United States, to amplify the voices of the Palestinian people.
“Ties with the US and other powers are crucial. I hope our friends in this struggle are not distracted by local chatter but instead understand the importance of negotiations and the global demand for peace. The US, especially, must accept the reality and hear the voices of the international community,” Anwar noted.
He expressed hope that his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October would contribute to an effective resolution to end the conflict in Gaza.
“Even if the resolution may not satisfy all parties, Malaysia’s demand is firm: an immediate end to the violent attacks on Gaza,” he added.
The GSF mission comprises activists from 45 countries, including 34 Malaysians, who are determined to break the blockade on Gaza. Despite facing drone threats and other challenges, the activists have remained steadfast in their mission.
Malaysia was the first country to officially recognize and support the flotilla, with Anwar pledging full backing.
Currently sailing in international waters near Greece, the GSF carries food, medicine, and a strong call for peace, demanding an end to war and famine and the opening of a humanitarian corridor into Gaza.
