SHAH ALAM: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will attend the Emergency Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday (Aug 25), Wisma Putra announced today.
The meeting was convened to address Israel’s latest moves, including a reported plan to forcibly seize the entire Gaza Strip and expand its so-called “Greater Israel” project actions, which Malaysia says blatantly contravene international law. Also on the agenda is Israel’s continued construction of thousands of illegal settlements in the E1 corridor between Jerusalem and Ma’ale Adumim in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Mohamad will also engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting to coordinate joint efforts to end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, particularly as humanitarian aid remains blocked by Israel.
“Malaysia’s participation reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and the struggle for an independent and sovereign state, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Wisma Putra said in a statement.
The emergency session of OIC foreign ministers is expected to be crucial in forging a collective Muslim position against Israel’s actions, while urging the wider international community to take immediate steps to halt what Malaysia has described as the continued oppression of the Palestinian people.
