PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students will receive additional training in emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and energy transition as part of the government’s efforts to prepare a future-ready workforce.

Speaking during the National TVET Day celebration in Putrajaya on Saturday, Anwar said between 50 and 100 participants from TVET institutions will be selected to undergo specialised training programmes aimed at developing expertise in these high-growth fields.

“The chief secretary to the government will be coordinating these efforts,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the initiative is designed to strengthen the country’s talent pipeline and ensure Malaysian youth are equipped with the skills required to meet the demands of rapidly evolving industries.

Selected participants will also be given opportunities to undergo practical training at facilities operated under the National Science Council, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in advanced technologies and innovation-driven sectors.

The move reflects the government’s broader commitment to transforming Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem and aligning it with future economic priorities, including digitalisation, sustainable development, and the transition towards cleaner energy sources.

Industry experts have increasingly highlighted the importance of AI, automation, and green technologies as key drivers of future employment opportunities, making skills development in these areas critical for national competitiveness.

Anwar said the initiative would help ensure that TVET graduates remain relevant in a changing job market while contributing to Malaysia’s ambitions of becoming a high-income, technology-driven nation.
