KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 – In a major reform aimed at boosting investor confidence and streamlining bureaucracy, Malaysia has unveiled a fully integrated online platform that will cut the processing time for expatriate employment passes from several months to just 20 working days.
Malaysia Launches New Platform to Speed Up Expat Human Resources Minister Steven Sim announced that the new system, called Xpats Gateway, merges previously disconnected processes across the Labour Department’s ePPAx, MYFutureJobs, and the Immigration Department’s Expatriate Services Division into a single, seamless portal.
“Previously, employers had to deal with three different agencies, uploading documents to separate platforms with approval taking anywhere from four to six months. Now, it’s all in one place – and approvals can come in as little as seven days,” said Sim during a media briefing today.
Since the platform’s launch last week, over 100 companies have already submitted employment pass applications. One of them successfully received approval within just seven working days, showcasing the efficiency of the new system.
Sim emphasized that the streamlined platform will significantly reduce administrative burden and costs for employers — potentially by up to 70%.
The platform was developed in-house by Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp), reflecting the capability of local public sector talent and ensuring that all sensitive data is securely managed within Malaysia.
“TalentCorp’s role in delivering this platform in-house highlights the strength of our civil service and enhances national data security,” Sim added.
Immigration Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh also praised the initiative, stating that the integration improves transparency, speeds up processing, and strengthens inter-agency cooperation.
“This is a great example of a whole-of-government approach, aligning the efforts of the Home Ministry and Human Resources Ministry to deliver transparent and investor-friendly services,” he said.
The government sees the new system as a strategic move to attract foreign talent, boost economic competitiveness, and ensure Malaysia remains a top destination for global businesses.
