KUALA LUMPUR: In the event that the UN grants a mandate, Malaysia’s prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, stated that Malaysia is eager to work with Indonesia to send peacekeeping troops to Palestine.

During their phone conversation yesterday, he and Prabowo Subianto, the minister of defence and the incoming president of Indonesia, focused heavily on this subject.

Anwar expressed his support for the notion of collaborating on an international peacekeeping mission between Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as the possibility of expanding this cooperation to include the Asean area.

“We spoke for around three minutes about current topics, with a focus on Prabowo’s recent role representing Indonesia internationally and his vision for peace and cooperation on a regional and global scale.

In a Facebook post from yesterday, he mentioned the humanitarian situation in Palestine and expressed Malaysia’s willingness to work with Indonesia to deploy peacekeeping forces if the UN grants a mandate.

In addition, Anwar thanked Prabowo and wished him a quick recovery after his successful surgical operation last week.

He prayed for Prabowo to recover quickly so he can return to his entrusted duties. “I also pray that Prabowo receives good care and treatment throughout his recovery period,” he stated.

The 2024–2029 President-elect, Michael Prabowo, had surgery to treat wounds he received while serving in the military.

The prime minister also conveyed optimism that the elections in Indonesia, which will end with the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on November 27, will go off without a hitch.
