RIO DE JANEIRO, July 7 (Voice of Malaysia— Malaysia, Egypt, and South Africa have reached a united stance, calling for an immediate end to Israeli aggression and oppression in Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe that has claimed over 56,000 Palestinian lives.

The consensus was reached during bilateral meetings held by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Prime Minister Anwar said Malaysia and Egypt agreed that the international community must not remain silent in the face of persistent human rights violations committed by the Israeli regime against Palestinians in Gaza.

During his meeting with President Ramaphosa, Anwar expressed deep appreciation for South Africa’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause—especially the country’s pioneering legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). South Africa is the first country to bring a genocide case against Israel over its military campaign in Gaza.

Anwar also said both Egypt and South Africa expressed interest in enhancing bilateral relations with Malaysia through cooperation in various strategic areas.

He noted that Malaysia and African nations are looking to reassess and expand cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, automotive, tourism, and halal industry development.

“Malaysia is fully committed to strengthening its ties with South Africa, one of our major trading partners in Africa,” said Anwar, adding that this effort aligns with the spirit of South-South cooperation and the MADANI framework for sustainable global development.

Prime Minister Anwar also extended an invitation to President Ramaphosa to attend the ASEAN Summit this October and expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s invitation to the G20 Summit to be held in South Africa this November.

The 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil has become a critical platform for leaders from the Global South to discuss international justice, economic cooperation, and joint responses to global conflicts.
