Malaysia and Italy to Deepen Strategic Cooperation Following the Anwar–Meloni Meeting in Rome

ROME||July 3, 2025: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a productive and comprehensive bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, which was an important step forward in strengthening Malaysia–Italy relations.

The meeting opened the door to broad-ranging discussions across key sectors, including strategic investments, defense cooperation, sustainable energy, and the development of high-tech industries such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence.

Anwar welcomed the continued interest and investment by prominent Italian companies such as Leonardo, Fincantieri, and ENI, expressing Malaysia’s readiness to facilitate their participation in national development projects. He also invited more Italian firms to engage in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and industrial training programs, particularly those that emphasize technology transfer and skills development.

The two leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global challenges, affirming the importance of collective solutions rooted in the principles of universal peace, justice, and mutual respect.

“This visit reinforces our shared determination to elevate the strategic partnership between Malaysia and Italy for the benefit of our peoples, built on mutual trust and genuine friendship,” said Anwar.

As the 2025 Chair of ASEAN, Anwar underscored Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ASEAN’s ties with international partners, including Italy and the wider European Union. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s role as a bridge between Southeast Asia and Europe to ensure regional stability, peace, and inclusive economic growth.

Prime Minister Anwar expressed appreciation for Italy’s openness and commitment as a key partner, voicing confidence that the two countries’ close relationship will continue to grow in the spirit of shared prosperity and a brighter common future.
