Makkah is coming up with smart ways to deal with nature disasters
The Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday that the Makkah municipality is planning to use AI and other smart technologies to help make natural disasters, especially floods, less harmful.
The city government recently made a deal with a specialised company to work on these technical solutions. One of the goals is to make the city’s control room more efficient and useful.
The plan also includes improving governance systems that support quality and sustainability goals and speeding up digital transformation projects in the city.
The development of a smart system to monitor infrastructure is a crucial aspect of this partnership. Heavy rain has been falling daily this year in the Makkah region.
The city wants to improve the quality of life for both residents and tourists by making services more efficient, making infrastructure safer, and using technology. This is in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, according to the SPA.
The city government increased e-services and apps earlier this year and improved the city’s infrastructure with multi-level parking lots and tech-run facilities.
The Smart City Index currently ranks Makkah 52nd in the world, fifth in the Arab world, and second in the Kingdom, behind Riyadh.
The government of Makkah says that all of these services help to make the city’s environment more sustainable.
The new structures in Makkah aim to enhance services for the increasing number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the holy city.
