KANGAR, Feb 10: Two officers from a Perlis state department have been remanded for five days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in an investigation into alleged false claims involving diesel fuel supplies amounting to RM114,000.
The suspects, an assistant administrative officer aged 43 and a senior administrative assistant aged 37, were remanded starting Tuesday following an order issued by the Kangar High Court. The remand was granted upon application by the Perlis MACC.
According to MACC sources, two contractor companies are believed to have submitted fraudulent claims for the supply and delivery of diesel fuel to the department between 2023 and 2024. The claims involved approximately 14,000 liters of diesel worth over RM50,000 in 2023 and 16,000 liters valued at more than RM60,000 in 2024.
Initial investigations indicate that the two civil servants allegedly collaborated with the companies to submit the claims despite the fuel supplies not being fully delivered. They are also suspected of falsely certifying that the supplies had been received to facilitate government payments.
Both suspects were arrested at around 5pm on Monday while they were giving statements at the Perlis MACC office.
Perlis MACC Director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which relates to the submission of false claims.
Further investigations are ongoing.
