Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof asserts that industry leaders, legislators, innovators, and consumers must collaborate to position Malaysia as a regional center for electric vehicle (EV) production and research.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that in order to realize Malaysia’s potential as a regional EV center fully, cooperation between all stakeholders is crucial.

Our dedication lies in building a sustainable future for future generations.

“By collaborating, we can establish Malaysia as a global leader in the automotive industry while promoting economic expansion and ecological sustainability,” he stated during his remarks at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 opening on Wednesday.

Anthony Loke, the transport minister, was also there.

Saying that bringing together stakeholders from all around the world will promote collaboration and result in major solutions, he described KLIMS 2024 as an important platform to further this aim.

He also emphasized the significant prospects that the mobility industry offers small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and local manufacturers.

Through the attraction of top-notch investments and the development of domestic skills, Malaysia has the potential to become a worldwide center for supply chains.

“To promote economic growth and competitiveness, we are concentrating on incorporating regional manufacturers and SMEs into global supply chains,” he continued.

He claimed that as transportation continues to be one of the main causes of greenhouse gas emissions, the industry is essential to Malaysia’s energy transition strategy.

Consumers’ adoption of EVs and hybrid cars will help us get closer to our sustainability objectives. Initiatives like KLIMS spark interest, cooperation, and action, he stated.

The goal of Malaysia’s National Investment Aspirations, according to Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, is to establish the nation as a global supply chain hub.

In addition to bolstering our economy, this strategic plan will set up Malaysia for a clean energy future when it assumes the presidency of ASEAN in 2025, he stated.

Additionally, he emphasized the need for technology development, which Budget 2025 supports and is in line with Malaysia’s objective of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

“We can create a more sustainable and prosperous future by incorporating regional industries into global supply chains and encouraging innovation,” he stated.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) president and chairman of KLIMS 2024, Mohd Samsor Mohd Zain, stated that the gathering is an essential means of bringing together regional manufacturers and world leaders in the sector. He claimed that this connection promotes corporate partnerships and useful information sharing, both of which are critical to furthering Malaysia’s automotive goals.

Thanks to major advancements in technology, infrastructure development, and government policy support for electrification, Malaysia’s leadership in the automotive sector in Southeast Asia is gradually gaining traction, according to Mohd Samsor.

He continued by saying that with over 700,000 jobs and an annual 4% contribution to the national gross domestic product, the automobile industry continues to be a major engine of Malaysia’s economy.

The total industrial volume reached a record 799,731 units in 2023, up from 200,000 units in 1994. We’re going to hit 800,000 units this year,” he stated.

Mohd Samsor recognized the substantial obstacles that lie ahead as the industry experiences swift change, notwithstanding its accomplishments.

Digitalization, electrification, and strict environmental restrictions will be challenges for MAA members.

He declared, “We will collaborate closely with the government to maintain a balance that supports the industry and the economy.”

In order to shape the future of transportation, he also emphasized Malaysia’s investigation into game-changing trends like electric vehicles (EVs), environmentally friendly solutions, autonomous driving, smart infrastructure, and sustainable technologies.

“To ensure Malaysia stays competitive, these developments highlight the significance of government support and industry collaboration,” he continued.

In the mobility industry, KLIMS 2024, which is organized by MAA and run by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd, offers a forum for technology advancement, corporate collaborations, and innovation.

The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) will host Malaysia’s largest automotive industry display from December 5–11, with the theme “Beyond Mobility.”

The 70 exhibitors, nine new car premieres, eight concept car exhibits, two- and three-wheeler innovations, last-mile mobility solutions, and cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies are all part of KLIMS 2024.
