IPOH: Nearly 700 residents of the Puncak Arabella Apartments in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, have been left completely isolated after a landslide struck the surrounding hillside on Friday night.
Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Azri Ramli said the incident, believed to have occurred at about 8.30pm, caused the sole access route, Jalan Puncak Arabella, to be entirely cut off by debris.
“According to an initial report released at 10pm, the landslide involved a portion of the slope located next to the apartment blocks,” he said in a statement.
Emergency responders from the Civil Defence Force (APM), police, and the Fire and Rescue Department were immediately mobilized to conduct safety inspections and assess the stability of the surrounding terrain to prevent further risks.
The Cameron Highlands District Council and district office have also been alerted and are coordinating early response measures, including plans for temporary access and resident support.
Deputy Supt. Azri said continuous assessments are underway, and further updates will be announced as more information becomes available.
