Be aware that, as of January 1, 2025, KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad) will be completely cashless if you want to ride an ETS, KTM Intercity, or KTM Komuter train in the near future.

In response to the government’s need for a variety of card payment methods, KTMB has installed card terminals at its stations that take credit/debit cards in addition to MyDebit cards. This covers mobile payment systems like Samsung Pay, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.

The government decided to completely eliminate cash from ticket purchases on November 1, 2024. The rail operator claims that the change would increase efficiency and competitiveness in keeping with the government’s goal of digitalization, which emphasizes security, openness, and inclusion.

Eighty-two percent of travelers already pay online for their ETS and Shuttle Tebrau services using KTMB’s mobile app. In the meantime, 71% of KTM Komuter customers in the Northern and Klang Valley regions have switched to cashless transactions. More than 3 million account registrations for ETS, KTM Intercity, Shuttle Tebrau, and KTM Komuter ticket transactions have been obtained by KTMB as of November 2024.

The Klang Valley, Northern, Southern, and East Coast areas are all using the cashless payment program.

To encourage MyDebit card usage, KTMB and Paynet are currently offering a 10 per cent discount promo for KTM Komuter Utara (Northern Sector). From December 16, 2024 to January 31, 2025, MyDebit Card holders can enjoy a 10 per cent discount for full fare Adult ticket on KTM Komuter Utara service, while quota is available. Take note that a temporary pre-authorisation amount of RM30 is required on your debit card and users must ensure sufficient funds before tapping in.
