KESUMA allocates RM2 million to continue the Talent Development Program for the Disabled

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) has allocated RM2 million to continue the Talent Development Program for the Disabled (OTEP) for this year.

According to the Malaysia Gazette, its minister, Steven Sim, said that the program under the initiative of Perbadanan Sumber Manusia Berhad (HRD Corp) proves the government’s commitment to increase understanding of the strength of the group so that no individual is marginalized.

At the same time, he said, the additional funding will provide them with essential skills and knowledge to succeed in their jobs and foster a supportive community.

“Beginning as a pilot last year, OTEP has 30 neurodiversity talents and 15 received jobs from large employers

“Through the success of this program, HRD Corp will allocate RM2 million to train more people with disabilities (OKU) including neurodiversity talent within the next year.

“The government wants to ensure that Malaysians regardless of physical, social, race, religion and so on that they have the right to achieve their aspirations in this country,” he said.

He said this to the media after launching the Neurodiversity Inclusion Impact Program at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre, here today.

Organized in conjunction with National Training Week (NTW) 2024, the program brings together representatives from the public and private sectors to support neurodivergent individuals through a variety of approaches.

This includes fostering a more inclusive environment, workshops focused on community empowerment and even work placement opportunities.

The program was also brightened by the departure of the Yang Pertuan Agong’s son, Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Also present were the Chairman of the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp), Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid and the Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Shahul Dawood.

Commenting further, Steven added, the Neurodiversity Inclusion Impact Program has managed to gather over 65,000 free training courses and 280,000 registrations in just its third day.

“This program can also raise awareness for parents, guardians, employers, associations and neurodivergent talents themselves at this event and a total of 56 job opportunities are provided,” he said.

NTW 2024 organized by HRD Corp started last June 24 and will end on June 30
