LONDON, July 15— The Jordanian Armed Forces conducted a high-level tactical exercise titled “Piercing Star” on Sunday as part of efforts to bolster combat readiness and operational coordination in the country’s eastern region, the Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.

The drill was led by the Princess Basma 3rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, a frontline unit under the Eastern Military Region, with strategic positioning near the Iraqi and Syrian borders, in the cities of Ar-Ramtha and Mafraq.

Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed Al-Huneiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, personally oversaw the exercise. He was accompanied by senior military officials, including the assistant for operations and training.

The “Piercing Star” drill aimed to sharpen the skills and adaptability of Jordanian troops under simulated battlefield conditions. Training components included:

  • Target acquisition and elimination

  • Medical evacuation procedures

  • Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for intelligence, surveillance, and target neutralization

  • Use of small arms, crew-served weapons, sniper fire, mortars, and anti-armor systems

  • Close air support coordinated with the Royal Jordanian Air Force

The combination of ground and aerial tactics reflected the army’s emphasis on joint operations and rapid response capabilities in high-threat environments.

Before observing the drill, Maj. Gen. Al-Huneiti received a comprehensive briefing from the regional and battalion commanders. The session outlined the exercise’s objectives, tactical phases, and integration of modern combat technologies.

Military leadership commended the performance of participating units and reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to enhancing border security, especially given the region’s proximity to areas prone to conflict and militant infiltration.

The Eastern Military Region remains a critical security zone for Jordan, given the ongoing instability in Syria and Iraq. Through advanced training exercises like “Piercing Star,” the Jordanian Armed Forces aim to strengthen border defenses and ensure swift, decisive action against any potential threats.

This drill is part of a broader strategic framework to maintain national security, support regional stability, and reinforce the army’s preparedness for modern warfare scenarios.
