AMMAN, Sept 15 (VoM): Jordan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, held separate meetings on Monday with the ambassadors of Australia, Sweden, and France to discuss expanding military and security cooperation, according to the Petra news agency.
The talks, which took place at the General Command in Amman, were attended by several senior officers from the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF). Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral defense ties, increasing cooperation in training, and exchanging expertise to address evolving security challenges.
During his meeting with Swedish Ambassador Maria Sargren, Huneiti reviewed areas of defense cooperation and broader regional and international security issues of mutual concern.
Talks with French Ambassador Franck Gellet highlighted the depth of Franco-Jordanian relations, particularly their military partnership and joint efforts in peacekeeping and security operations.
Meanwhile, in discussions with Australian Ambassador Bernard Lynch, the two sides explored ways to boost collaboration in training programs and technical expertise exchange.
The visiting diplomats praised Jordan’s stabilizing role in the region under the leadership of King Abdullah II and commended the JAF for its humanitarian and medical contributions in regional crises.
Jordan, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East, has long positioned itself as a central partner in regional security, counterterrorism efforts, and international peacekeeping missions.
