JIM hands over investigation of 5 officers involved in syndicate to MACC
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) welcomes the detention of five of its officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday and has fully handed over the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigation.
According to Bernama, Immigration Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh stated that the department will also cooperate fully, transparently, and fairly.
He said that JIM will not compromise or protect any officer involved in integrity violations such as abuse of power and corruption, whether at the country’s entry points or at any Immigration Office nationwide, which tarnishes the department’s and the nation’s reputation.
“Severe actions and penalties will be imposed based on existing legal provisions, including dismissal, if the offending officers are found guilty.
“JIM is serious and committed to ensuring that the integrity of its officers is always maintained at the highest level,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Ruslin encouraged the public to report any misconduct by Immigration officers, such as abuse of power, corruption, and disciplinary offenses, through the hotline 03-8880 1246, email aduanintegriti@imi.gov.my, or by visiting Level 4, Integrity Division, Immigration Department Headquarters, Putrajaya.
Today, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki reported that the commission had uncovered a syndicate involved in bringing foreign nationals into the country, following the detention of 12 individuals during Operation Pump conducted by MACC in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Kelantan yesterday.
It was also reported that those detained include four company owners, three civilians believed to be managing the entry of foreign nationals, and five enforcement officers stationed at KLIA Terminal 2.
