KUALA LUMPUR: The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Wilayah Persekutuan urges the government to take the flash flood issue in Kuala Lumpur seriously, following the recent incident.

Its Information Chief, Muhammad Azha Salahudin, stated that the flooding in the capital is a recurring issue that causes significant losses to many parties.

“(It impacts) residents, workers, companies, and others affected, and it brings economic losses to the country,” he said in a statement.

Azha further emphasized that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and other relevant agencies need to address this issue seriously.

He explained that nearly every rainy season or heavy rainfall event brings about flash floods, particularly in the city center.

“With the increasingly unpredictable and extreme climate changes, rainfall patterns are likely to be more intense.

“This, combined with new and existing developments in Kuala Lumpur, somewhat disrupts the drainage system, leading to more frequent flash floods,” he said.

He added that there is no excuse for allowing the problem to persist without a solution.

AMK Wilayah Persekutuan calls for a new or more concrete action plan from DBKL and the involved agencies, utilizing the latest appropriate technology.

“This can be implemented to resolve the flash flood issue and prevent ongoing losses to individuals, communities, and the economy, especially in the capital,” he concluded.
