Ismail Lasim New Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan

KUALA LUMPUR: Juasseh State Legislative Assembly (DUN) member Datuk Ismail Lasim today took his oath of office as the new Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Ismail, 67, who is also a former Chairman of the Negeri Sembilan Education and Human Capital Action Committee, took his oath of office before the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Balairong Seri, Istana Besar Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan here at 11.29 am.

Also in attendance at the Ceremony of Appointment and Oath‑Taking of the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan were the Tunku Ampuan Besar, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, and the Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, as well as the Tunku Panglima Besar, Tunku Zain Al‑’Abidin Tuanku Muhriz.

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, as well as the newly elected representatives of Negeri Sembilan.

Yesterday, in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), Ismail won the Juasseh DUN seat with a majority of 4,091 after garnering 6,907 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Mohd Aidil Abdullah who obtained 2,816 votes and Mohd Zuhaimi Md Yusof from Bersatu with 506 votes.

The results of yesterday’s Negeri Sembilan PRN saw BN successfully obtaining 18 DUN seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured 11 seats, thus allowing the two coalitions to form the state government with a two‑thirds majority.

A total of 36 DUN seats were contested in this PRN, involving 103 candidates.

In the 15th Negeri Sembilan PRN, PH won 17 DUN seats, followed by BN (14) and PN (five), seeing the formation of a PH and BN state government.

The Negeri Sembilan DUN was dissolved on 5 June last after BN Negeri Sembilan withdrew its support for the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on 27 April, thus paving the way for the PRN to be held.
