Iran: Trump’s win presents a chance for the US to change “wrong policies”
Iran has expressed that it will evaluate the new US government based on its policies and approaches following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election on Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeili Baghaei mentioned on Thursday that Trump’s victory presents a chance for the United States to reconsider its “wrong policies” from the past.
In 2018, the US, led by then-president Trump, decided to pull out of a nuclear agreement made in 2015 with Iran and introduced a number of strict sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
“Baghaei shared that they have faced some tough experiences with the policies and approaches of various US governments in the past,” as reported by the IRNA news agency.
The results of the elections provide a chance to look back and make improvements on past approaches, he added.
Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s stance remains unchanged: the outcomes of the US election hold no significance for the Islamic Republic.
“The decision regarding the American president lies with the people of that nation, and now the American people have made their decision,” he stated.
“What matters for Iran is how the American government performs as the evaluation criterion,” he added.
On Wednesday, Iran’s government spokeswoman, Fatemeh Mohajerani, shared with reporters in Tehran that Iran views no distinction between Trump and his Democratic election opponent, Kamala Harris.
“The election of the US president doesn’t really concern us.” <text”the general”
“It really doesn’t matter who becomes the president in the United States, as all the necessary planning has been done ahead of time,” Mohajerani shared, noting that Iran is ready to handle any new sanctions that may come its way.
“Honestly, we don’t notice any difference between these two individuals [Trump and Harris]. She further explained that sanctions have strengthened Iran’s internal power and that they have the ability to handle new sanctions.
In a remarkable political turnaround with unexpected implications for the globe, Trump officially took office as the 47th US president on Wednesday after securing a solid majority of Electoral College votes. As of now, Trump has secured 295 electoral votes, while Harris has 226.
He won a second non-consecutive term almost four years after stepping away from the White House after a significant loss to his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.
