Immigration Crackdown In Taman Sri Bahagia Nets 108 Illegal Immigrants

JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 108 foreign nationals, believed to be working at business premises around Taman Sri Bahagia here, were detained during an integrated operation conducted by the Johor Immigration Department together with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) last night.

The operation began at 8 p.m., based on intelligence and surveillance carried out, focusing on business premises believed to be operated by foreign nationals.

Johor Immigration Director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the operation aimed to strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws as well as to curb the misuse of visit passes, work passes, and immigration facilities.

“A thorough inspection was carried out at each identified premise, checking the travel documents, passes, and permits of individuals at the locations to ensure they were present and conducting activities in Malaysia in accordance with the stipulated legal provisions.

“As a result of the inspections, 108 foreign nationals aged between 18 and 49 were detained for various immigration offences,” he said in a statement here today.

Those detained comprised 101 males, involving 32 Bangladeshis, 22 Myanmarese, 16 Pakistanis, 15 Nepalis, 12 Indonesians, and 4 Indians, as well as seven females, namely three Myanmarese, two Indonesians, and two Nepalis.

He said all the individuals were suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963, and were subsequently detained at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation and further action.

In addition, Mohd Rusdi said two Form 29, namely summonses to witnesses, were also issued throughout the inspections to assist in the investigation.
