KUALA LUMPUR: A helium gas cylinder explosion caused damage to two food stalls and three vehicles at Medan Selera Sungai Ramal in Kajang on Friday afternoon, though no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said authorities received a report on the incident at about 1pm. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the explosion.
“Initial investigations indicate that there were no criminal elements involved in the incident,” ACP Naazron said in a statement. He added that the exact cause of the explosion, as well as the total extent of the losses, is still under investigation.
The blast is believed to have originated from a helium gas cylinder, which is commonly used for inflating balloons and other commercial purposes. Police have not disclosed whether the cylinder was in use at the time of the explosion.
ACP Naazron urged members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information to assist with the investigation by contacting the Kajang Police Station chief, Inspector Shisheewady Ruzani, at 016-856 5670.
Authorities have advised stall operators and business owners to ensure proper handling and storage of gas cylinders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
