KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking several individuals believed to be involved in an attempted cable theft in the Sungai Lalang area of Semenyih earlier on Friday.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report on the incident was received at 2.08pm, although preliminary investigations indicate the attempted theft took place at around 9.30am.
“Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspects, who are believed to have used a four-wheel drive vehicle and a motorcycle during the incident,” ACP Naazron said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 379 read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
ACP Naazron urged members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation. They may contact the nearest police station or reach the investigating officer, Sergeant A. Vaelmurgan, at 019-611 1660.
Police said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that firm action will be taken against those responsible.
