KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8: The government is finalizing eligibility requirements and implementation methods for the upcoming RON95 fuel subsidy, with the scheme expected to be introduced by the end of this month.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the subsidy mechanism is being carefully structured to ensure that the majority of eligible Malaysians will continue to benefit without disruption.
“The government is also collaborating with petrol station operators to enable the use of the MyKad payment system at pumps once the subsidy is rolled out,” Amir told the Senate during question time on Monday.
Responding to a query from Senator Rose Suryati Alang, he explained that data from the Central Database Hub (Padu) will be used to verify eligibility, ensuring that only qualified individuals receive the assistance.
“We will announce the details at the end of the month, with the assurance that the subsidies will reach the intended recipients,” said Amir, who also serves as economy minister.
The new targeted subsidy scheme is part of the government’s broader effort to rationalize subsidies while protecting lower- and middle-income groups from rising living costs.
