PUTRAJAYA, Jan 15: The Malaysian government has ordered strict enforcement against the misuse of social visit visas for illegal employment and business activities, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim announced on Thursday.
The move comes after complaints from local traders about unauthorized business operations by foreign visitors. The issue was discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (Jan 14), where ministers agreed on the need for decisive action.
“Following complaints from local traders, I raised this matter, and the government has directed the relevant agencies to take firm enforcement action, including strengthening the monitoring of unauthorized employment and business activities,” said Sim in a statement.
He added that he would work closely with the Home Affairs Ministry and other relevant agencies to ensure that follow-up actions are carried out promptly.
“This step is important to protect micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local small traders, and to ensure that the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem remains orderly and competitive,” he said.
Sim emphasized that while Malaysia continues to welcome tourists and investors, all parties must comply with the nation’s laws and regulations without exception.
