Four Men Hunted After Fleeing With Jewellery

SUNGAI PETANI: Police are tracking down four masked men believed to have been involved in the robbery of a jewellery shop at a shopping mall here last night.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said that in the incident at about 7.20 pm, two suspects entered the premises before smashing three glass display cases with hammers and fleeing with various items of jewellery.

He said the other two suspects were believed to have waited outside the premises before all four fled on two motorcycles.

“The suspects who entered the shop smashed the display cases and took the jewellery before fleeing. Their two accomplices were waiting about 20 metres from the premises.

“The shop owner estimated the losses at between RM700,000 and RM1 million, although the actual amount is still under investigation.

“We are still awaiting a complete list of the missing jewellery to determine the actual value of the losses,” he told Astro AWANI when contacted today.

Hanyan said two employees were inside the premises at the time of the incident, but neither was injured.

He said several members of the public also attempted to help following the robbery and managed to recover some jewellery believed to have been dropped or left behind by the suspects as they fled, before handing the items over to police.

Hanyan said police were still investigating the registration numbers of the motorcycles used by the suspects, while the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, he advised the public not to take actions that could put themselves in danger when attempting to apprehend criminals, particularly if the suspects are believed to be armed.

“We do not know whether the suspects may have more dangerous weapons. Therefore, public safety must be the priority.

“At the same time, police welcome any information from witnesses, including details about the suspects’ physical appearance, build, speech or any suspicious behaviour observed before the incident,” he said.

He also confirmed that the same premises had been targeted in a robbery in 2024, with losses estimated at up to RM1 million.
