IPOH: Police have confirmed the identities of the victims in a fatal crash that claimed four lives, including a child, at Kilometre 38.5 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB), near the Tasik Banding area in Gerik on Sunday.

Gerik District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman, in a brief response to Bernama, confirmed that three of the victims were Al Zubair Deraman, 31, Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40, and Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19.

However, the identity of the female child has yet to be confirmed, while the injured victim is understood to be Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah, 9.

He also confirmed that all the victims had addresses in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Earlier, the fatal crash was believed to have occurred after a Perodua Axia lost control before crashing into the front of a lorry at the scene.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the crash, which occurred at about 1.30pm on Sunday, involved three vehicles — a Hino lorry, a Proton Persona and a Perodua Axia.

He said the Perodua Axia, driven by a 19-year-old man and carrying four passengers — a 31-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and two children — was travelling in the opposite direction from Gerik towards Jeli, Kelantan.
