Four Killed in Crash: Trailer Driver Arrested, Tests Positive for Drugs
KUANTAN – The trailer driver who skidded and crushed a car, killing four people on the Kuala Lumpur–Karak (KLK) Highway on Sunday, has tested positive for drugs.
Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said a urine screening test conducted on the 40-year-old man found him positive for methamphetamine.
According to him, the driver was taken to the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD) for a urine screening test after completing treatment at the hospital.
“The arrest was made at around 4 am on Monday before the driver was brought to the Raub Magistrate’s Court for a remand application,” he said.
Police had previously confirmed that the man also had 15 past summons records.
In the accident, which was reported at around 4.35 pm, four people, including a young girl, were killed after the car they were travelling in was crushed by an overturned trailer carrying wood dust.
The deceased were the driver and passengers of a Honda City car, identified as A Halim Hasoon, 55, Rozita Buang, 58, Norbahyah A Halim, 26, and Nayla Afya Aizat Faizal, 1.
The accident is believed to have been caused by the trailer losing control while negotiating a hilly bend before skidding and crushing the victims’ car.
All the victims were trapped and pronounced dead at the scene before their remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) in Temerloh for post-mortem procedures.
