KUALA LUMPUR: The freeze on applications for foreign worker employment quotas will continue until a date to be announced later.

According to the Wilayahku portal, the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, stated that this is due to the number of foreign workers in the country approaching the established ceiling as of September 15.

“The number of foreign workers in the country is guided by the Ministry of Economy’s determination in the 12th Malaysia Plan, which is set at 15 percent of the total workforce in the country.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs continuously monitors the entry of foreign workers to ensure compliance with the established ceiling, thereby ensuring public safety and order.

“Therefore, it is announced that the freeze on applications for foreign worker employment quotas will continue until a date to be announced later,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Additionally, he mentioned that the registration period for the 2.0 Workforce Recalibration Program ended on December 31 last year.

“The government has no plans to implement a new regularization program in the future,” he said.
