JOHOR BAHRU: An 18-year-old Indonesian teenager was arrested with 25.95 kilogrammes (kg) of drugs suspected to be syabu and heroin worth RM1.29 million.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspect, who had overstayed in the country and was believed to be acting as the caretaker of a drug storage facility, was arrested during a police raid at Jalan Delima, Taman Lian Seng, Kluang, on Sept 13.

He said the house had been rented without any tenancy agreement and was believed to have been used as a drug storage facility before the drugs were distributed to the local market.

“Police found eight plastic packets believed to contain syabu weighing 8.11kg and 38 plastic packets believed to contain heroin weighing 17.84kg.

“The suspect is believed to be involved with a drug trafficking syndicate that has been active since January, while the mastermind behind the syndicate is still being sought,” he told a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today.

According to Ab Rahaman, the suspect had a passport and entered Malaysia legally but had overstayed the permitted period.

He said an initial urine screening found the suspect negative for drugs, while checks showed that he had no previous criminal record.

“The suspect has been remanded for seven days from Sept 14 until this Sunday. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
