SHAH ALAM: Many Shah Alam residents working in Kuala Lumpur reportedly faced severe traffic congestion lasting more than an hour after several major routes in the city were closed due to flooding following continuous rain since Tuesday afternoon.

Based on posts shared by members of the public on Threads, motorists reported unusually heavy traffic congestion following the closure of several flooded roads.

Among the affected routes were the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), as well as several roads near Section 13 and Bukit Jelutong.

According to the posts, many commuters travelling from Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur were forced to use alternative routes after major roads were closed, resulting in congestion at several locations.

Journeys that would normally take around 30 minutes stretched to more than an hour due to traffic congestion caused by flooding and road closures.

Heavy rain reportedly began at around 4 pm on Tuesday and continued until 6 am on Wednesday, causing flooding in several low-lying areas and disrupting traffic movement.

Earlier, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), in an update issued at 4.07 am, reported that flash floods at Kilometre 9.1 of the NKVE between Shah Alam and Subang had blocked all lanes in both directions.

Northbound traffic from Bukit Raja was diverted to Setia Alam, while southbound vehicles from Subang were diverted to ELITE.

At 3.20 am, PLUS also issued an update announcing the closure of all lanes before the Shah Alam Toll Plaza, while at 5.30 am, all lanes at the Shah Alam Interchange on ELITE, between Seafield and Setia Alam, were reported closed.

Meanwhile, PROLINTAS GCE, in an update issued at 5.42 am, announced the complete closure of Ramp B, Ramp C and Ramp D at the NKVE interchange due to flash floods.
