KUANTAN, Feb 25: A father has lodged a police report against his own son following allegations that the 21-year-old student uploaded social media content touching on sensitive issues related to religion, race, and royalty (3R).
Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said the 50-year-old man came to the police station together with his son on Wednesday morning to file the report.
According to ACP Ashari, the father expressed deep concern for his son’s safety and apologized to the Muslim community over the allegedly offensive post.
“The suspect is believed to have uploaded an image that was deemed insulting to Islam,” he said in a statement.
Police arrested the student and obtained a four-day remand order until Saturday to facilitate further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
ACP Ashari urged the public to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands, warning that any action that could disrupt public order would be dealt with firmly.
