KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25: The Immigration Department of Malaysia has successfully dismantled an international fake visa syndicate known as “David Lawrence,” which offered fraudulent European visas for up to RM20,000 per document.

In a media statement, the Immigration Department of Malaysia for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (JIMWPKL) said the syndicate was led by a Bangladeshi husband-and-wife duo in their 30s and had been operating for about eight months.

The operation was uncovered following a three-month intelligence investigation by the department’s Enforcement Division. Authorities revealed that the syndicate processed fake international visas for clients in Bangladesh, with documents sent to Malaysia via international courier before being falsified for travel to European countries.

Acting on intelligence, enforcement officers carried out a raid on Feb 10, 2026, at a residence in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur, which served as the syndicate’s operational base. During the raid, officers seized several Bangladeshi passports, fake foreign country stamps, suspected fake immigration slips, mobile phones, laptops, and other equipment used in the illegal operation.

On Feb 23, 2026, both suspects were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Court and pleaded guilty to nine charges. The court imposed a total fine of RM112,000. However, after failing to pay the fine, both accused were ordered to serve 45 months in prison.

Upon completion of their jail term, the two individuals will be deported to their home country and permanently blacklisted from entering Malaysia.

The Immigration Department stressed that strict action will continue to be taken against anyone involved in document forgery and violations of immigration laws under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and other relevant legislation. The public is urged to provide information on illegal activities to help safeguard national security and sovereignty.
