Durian feast program strengthens community unity

KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the 61st Malaysia Day celebration, the Sub-Zone 3 Residents’ Representative Council of the Cheras parliamentary constituency held a Durian Feast Program with visually impaired friends at Taman Midah this morning.

According to the Wilayahku portal, the durian feast was officiated by Cheras Member of Parliament Tan Kok Wai and attended by 80 visually impaired individuals who enjoyed durians and langsat fruits.

In his speech, Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai noted that although the durian season is nearing its end, there is still time to enjoy Malaysia’s King of Fruits during the upcoming two festivals.

“These are Malaysia Day 2024 and the Mid-Autumn Festival,” he said.

Meanwhile, Leong Ooi Yee, Chairman of the Sub-Zone 3 Residents’ Representative Council, stated that the objective of the durian feast is to strengthen ties and unity among Malaysians.

“This is especially meaningful on Malaysia Day while enjoying the King of Fruits, the durian,” he said.

The Durian Feast Program was also co-organized with the Indah Charity Association, benefiting visually impaired friends from the Malaysia Association for the Culture of the Visually Impaired.

All attendees also received a box of mooncakes sponsored by the Indah Charity Association.

Also present were Carmen Leong, Chairman of the Sub-Zone 1 Residents’ Representative Council of Cheras, Bryan Lew, Chairman of the Sub-Zone 6 Residents’ Representative Council of Cheras, and members of the Cheras parliamentary MPP.
