ConocoPhillips Takes Over Full Operations of Sabah’s Kebabangan Gas Cluster
ConocoPhillips has officially taken over as the sole operator of the Kebabangan gas cluster, a strategic oil, condensate, and gas field located offshore Sabah. This transition comes after Malaysia’s national oil company, Petronas, transferred its contractual rights for the cluster to the U.S.-based energy giant.
The Kebabangan gas cluster is a critical resource in Malaysia’s energy sector, with an export capacity of up to 750 million standard cubic feet per day. ConocoPhillips’ cluster management is expected to enhance operational efficiency and output in line with global energy demands.
Energy experts believe this move will have a lasting impact on Malaysia’s oil and gas industry, as it could open the door for further foreign investment and technological advancements in upstream operations. The partnership between Malaysian and international players continues to highlight Sabah’s strategic role as a key hub for natural gas production in the Asia-Pacific region.
