PUTRAJAYA: A Chinese national has been arrested after allegedly attacking an immigration counter officer during departure screening at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Wednesday night.

According to the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), the incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. when the woman, accompanied by a man and two children, was referred for further checks after officers discovered no record of their entry into Malaysia. She reportedly became agitated when asked to allow other passengers to proceed, hurling abusive language before pulling the officer’s headscarf and pushing her head against a pillar.

A brief struggle ensued, and the suspect refused to calm down despite repeated instructions. Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel intervened, and the officer, who suffered swelling to the left eye, a headache, and body fatigue, was treated at Cyberjaya Hospital.

The suspect is now in police custody and is being investigated under Sections 186, 332, and 353 of the Penal Code for obstructing, injuring, and using criminal force against a public servant.

The Peninsula Malaysia Immigration Services Union (KPISM) condemned the assault as “outrageous and unacceptable,” calling it an attack on Malaysia’s sovereignty and the integrity of its border security. KPISM urged authorities to expedite prosecution and implement stronger safeguards for officers, including mandatory CCTV coverage at all counters.

“Immigration officers are the nation’s first line of defense,” said KPISM President Ajeet Singh A/L Gurbax Singh. “Such acts of violence will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law must apply.”
