China Pledges Support to Cuba as Jet Fuel Crisis Disrupts International Flights

Beijing, Feb 10 :  China has expressed readiness to assist Cuba amid a growing jet fuel shortage that has forced several airlines to suspend or adjust flights to the Caribbean nation, Chinese officials said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said there were no reports of Chinese nationals stranded in Cuba despite flight disruptions. He reiterated Beijing’s strong political and diplomatic support for Havana, stressing that China opposes foreign interference in Cuba’s internal affairs.

“China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security,” Lin said, adding that Beijing would continue to provide assistance to Cuba “to the best of our ability.”

The jet fuel shortage emerged after the United States blocked fuel shipments from Venezuela, tightening pressure on the Cuban government and disrupting aviation operations. Airlines have been forced to cancel routes or plan refueling stops in other countries, raising concerns over tourism and international connectivity.

China and Cuba have long maintained close political and economic ties, and Beijing’s latest comments highlight its intention to stand by Havana amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
