KUANTAN: Part of the ceiling of the Children’s Ward and Women’s Ward at Jengka Hospital caught fire tonight.

Maran District Police Chief, Superintendent Wong Kim Wai, said his office received information about the incident at about 7 pm.

He said the fire involved the ceiling area of both wards and was fully extinguished by the Pahang Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in about 20 minutes.

“Six boys, five girls and six women who were in the wards managed to escape, and no one was injured,” he said in a statement today.

Kim Wai said, according to information from JBPM Pahang, the fire originated from above the ceiling of the children’s ward and women’s ward buildings, causing about 10 per cent of the wiring and ceiling to be damaged.

He said the cause of the fire and the estimated total losses are still under investigation by JBPM Pahang.
