BN-PN Obtain Two-Thirds Majority to Form New NS Government – Ahmad Zahid
SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will form the Negeri Sembilan state government after the coalition obtained a two-thirds majority based on unofficial results of the State Election (PRN) today, said BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said unofficially, BN won 18 seats while PN obtained seven seats, thus giving both coalitions the majority to lead the state administration.
“We will continue with follow-up discussions between both coalitions regarding the formation of the new state government based on the results informed,” he said at a press conference at Wisma UMNO Negeri Sembilan here.
Ahmad Zahid said the state government to be formed is based on the understanding between BN and PN and is centred on the mandate given by the people.
He said the mandate comes together with a great responsibility to form a stable and credible government, besides striving to improve the people’s well-being and the state’s prosperity.
“We accept this result with full humility, modesty and a sense of responsibility. The people’s trust is not a reason for us to be complacent or arrogant.
“Our task begins tonight. Every promise in the manifesto, Insya-Allah, we will fulfil for the benefit of the people and the state as a whole,” he said.
Also present were BN Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan; WAWASAN President, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin; Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud; MCA President, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and MIC Deputy President, Datuk Seri M Saravanan.
When asked about the matter of meeting the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Ahmad Zahid said it will be done as soon as possible.
A total of 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats were contested in this state election, involving 103 candidates.
A total of 859,760 registered voters including 7,391 postal voters were eligible to vote today, with the voter turnout recorded by the Election Commission as of 4 pm being 65.38 per cent or 562,133 voters.
In the 15th Negeri Sembilan state election, PH won 17 DUN seats followed by BN (14) and PN (five).
