Kolkata/Patna, August 30:Violent clashes erupted in Bihar and West Bengal on Friday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers allegedly stormed Congress party offices, vandalizing property and attacking party workers. The unrest was triggered by derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, sparking widespread protests and retaliatory violence.

According to video footage circulated on social media, workers from both parties were seen assaulting each other with flagpoles and sticks. Several leaders and activists from both sides sustained injuries in the clashes, though no arrests were reported immediately in West Bengal.

The controversy began in Bihar’s Darbhanga during the “Voter Rights Yatra,” where a man draped in a Congress flag was caught on video making obscene comments directed at Prime Minister Modi. The footage quickly went viral, prompting the BJP to file an FIR and demand a public apology from Congress.

Darbhanga Police later confirmed that one accused individual had been arrested. In a statement on X, the police said, “A case has been registered at Simri police station. One accused has been arrested and produced before the court.”

However, tensions escalated further on Friday when BJP workers staged a protest march in Patna. As Congress supporters countered the demonstration, violent clashes broke out between the two groups, forcing police to intervene with a heavy deployment to bring the situation under control. The city remains tense.

The unrest soon spread to West Bengal, where BJP held a protest rally outside the Congress headquarters at Bidhan Bhavan in Kolkata. During the demonstration, a group of BJP workers allegedly stormed the Congress office, vandalizing furniture, tearing down posters, and setting fire to banners featuring opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. The incident reportedly took place under the leadership of BJP leader Rakesh Singh.

The West Bengal Pradesh Congress condemned the attack, filing a complaint at Entally police station. Party spokesperson Soumya Aich Roy said, “This proves BJP’s political bankruptcy. Since Congress is exposing BJP’s corruption nationwide, they are venting anger on our offices. The attack was carried out when the office was empty. We demand strict action from the state administration.”

In Bihar, Congress leader Ashutosh directly blamed the state government for enabling the violence. “The government is complicit. Nitish Kumar is making a mistake. We will respond,” he warned.

The incidents underscore escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the Congress-led opposition at a time when both parties are locked in fierce battles ahead of key state and national elections.
