Ayathon Hackathon Boosts Qur’an App Innovation Through Modern Technology

RIYADH||June 30:  The recently concluded Ayathon hackathon in Riyadh has brought together innovators in technology and Islamic scholarship to enhance digital experiences related to the Holy Qur’an.

Organized by the Programmers Association, Ayathon aims to leverage cutting-edge technology to support Qur’anic memorization, recitation, and reflection, while promoting tools that align with Islamic values.

Abdulaziz Al-Oraij, chairman of the association, described Ayathon as a groundbreaking initiative to serve the Holy Qur’an through the power of modern digital innovation. “It brings together programmers, designers, researchers, and Islamic scholars to develop meaningful and interactive Qur’anic tools,” he said.

Mohammed Al-Wadee, chairman of the hackathon’s committee, emphasized that the goal is not only to improve existing Qur’anic apps but also to create new digital solutions that reflect both innovation and religious integrity. He highlighted the integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and user experience (UX) design into sustainable and impactful projects.

Maha Al-Atwi, chair of the technical committee, said Ayathon stands at the intersection of technical creativity and intellectual depth. “By encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration, we are developing digital solutions that meet the diverse needs of users around the world,” she said. She added that Ayathon is using technologies like AI and data analytics to provide high-quality, tailored Qur’anic experiences for today’s digital generation.

The judging panel included international experts in both technology and Islamic studies to ensure that projects were assessed based on innovation, content quality, and meaningful impact.

Ayathon takes an important step toward modernizing how users interact with the Qur’an through technology, empowering a new wave of spiritually grounded, tech-savvy solutions.
